FAQ
1. What is the Vulcan MSK Platform?
The Vulcan MSK Platform is an integrated clinical sensing platform that combines wearable sensing and clinical software to support objective musculoskeletal measurements for assessment and rehabilitation.
It captures, connects, and analyzes multi-modal muscle activity, movement and physiological data to provide clinicians with actionable references throughout the recovery journey.
2. What makes the Vulcan MSK Platform different?
Unlike conventional rehabilitation assessment tools that measure isolated metrics, the Vulcan MSK Platform combines muscle activity (EMG), movement quality (IMU), range of motion, and physiological signals into a single integrated sensing platform.
Rather than simply collecting data, it connects and cross-analyzes multiple measurements in each sessions and assessments with context together to generate objective additional insights that provide clearer information for users and professionals to review rehabilitation.
3. What can Vulcan MSK actually measure?
Vulcan MSK captures objective measurements of muscle activity, range of motion (ROM), movement, and physiological responses during rehabilitation sessions. These include Electromyography signals for muscle activation, Inertial sensing for joint-angle and movement data, as well as another sensing for selected physiological measurements
4. What is the role of the Vulcan MSK Platform in musculoskeletal rehabilitation and recovery?
Vulcan MSK provides objective data throughout the rehabilitation journey, from clinical assessment and exercise sessions to longitudinal recovery monitoring. It helps clinicians track changes over time and compare assessment results with clearer additional information to review.
5. Can Vulcan MSK replace conventional clinical assessment?
No. Vulcan MSK is designed to complement, not replace, conventional clinical assessment, functional testing, and clinical judgment.
6. Which patients benefit most from Vulcan MSK assessment?
It is suited for patients requiring objective musculoskeletal assessment and longitudinal monitoring, including ACL reconstruction, joint replacement, rotator cuff repair, and sports rehabilitation.
7. Which clinical applications does the platform is evaluated support?
Current applications include ACL reconstruction, total knee replacement, rotator cuff repair, sports rehabilitation, clinical assessment, and connected rehabilitation monitoring. The configurable platform is also being developed for future musculoskeletal applications.
8. When should Vulcan MSK wearable sensors be used in clinical practice?
Vulcan MSK is being developed to use in scheduled assessments, rehabilitation sessions, and selected home-rehabilitation programs where objective recovery monitoring is clinically appropriate.
9. How does Vulcan MSK analysis support rehabilitation programs?
Clinicians can use patient-specific EMG, ROM, movement, and physiological data as additional references to eastablish a baseline and compare changes between the affected and unaffected sides when reviewing rehabilitation.
10. Can clinicians see trends across multiple sessions?
Yes. Vulcan MSK allows clinicians to review and compare measurements across multiple sessions
11. Can Vulcan MSK help clinicians monitor recovery progress or assess return-to-sport readiness?
No, Vulcan MSK is not designed to replace clinical judgements and decisions to monitor recovery progress or assess return-to-sport readiness.
Vulcan MSK provides objective measurements that clinicians can use as an additional reference to review changes throughout rehabilitation. Measurements from different sessions can help provide additional context on changes in muscle activity, movement, and range of motion.
For return-to-sport assessment, this information can be considered alongside clinical judgment, functional tests, and established rehabilitation criteria.
12. How many rehabilitation exercises are currently available on the Vulcan MSK Platform? Can they be customized for specific clinical needs?
The platform currently includes more than 20 guided rehabilitation exercises covering common musculoskeletal conditions and recovery stages. Rehabilitation programs can be configured by clinicians to match different surgical procedures, rehabilitation protocols, and patient-specific goals.
As new clinical applications are developed, additional exercises and assessment protocols can be added to the platform.
13. How do I use the Vulcan MSK Platform?
The platform is designed for both clinicians and patients. Clinicians place the wearable sensors on the patient according to the relevant assessment or exercise protocol, then start the session through the clinical software. The platform is automatically captured, synchronized with the clinical software, and analyzed to provide objective and contextual information for professionals and users to review.
For home rehabilitation, Vulcan MSK is developed to support patients follow guided exercises through the companion application, while relevant session data is recorded for clinician review.
14. Is there any age requirement for using the Vulcan MSK Platform?
There is no fixed age requirement. The Vulcan MSK Platform is intended for patients undergoing musculoskeletal assessment or rehabilitation under the guidance of healthcare professionals. Suitability depends on the patient's clinical condition and rehabilitation goals rather than age alone.
15. Are Vulcan MSK wearable sensors reliable for tracking data in rehabilitation?
Vulcan MSK is designed for consistent data collection across rehabilitation sessions. Reliability should be evaluated according to the specific measurement, protocol, and clinical application.
16. Does Vulcan MSK require special infrastructure to implement?
No. Vulcan MSK is designed to integrate into existing clinical and rehabilitation workflows without requiring specialized infrastructure. The platform uses wearable sensors, clinical software, and a connected digital ecosystem, with implementation requirements depending on the specific clinical workflow and deployment model. Our team also provides onboarding and implementation support to help clinics and rehabilitation centers get started.
17. How is the platform implemented in a hospital or rehabilitation center?
The platform is designed to integrate into existing rehabilitation workflows with minimal infrastructure requirements. Our team provides onboarding and implementation support based on your clinical environment.
18. What benefits does Vulcan MSK analysis provide for patients?
Vulcan MSK provides patients with clearer, more objective information when reviewing their recovery. Real-time visual feedback can help patients better understand changes in their muscle activity, movement, and range of motion, supporting to help patients stay more engaged and confident in their rehabilitation since changes are now more visible.
19. What benefits does Vulcan MSK analysis provide for clinics and hospitals?
Beyond providing objective references for clinicians to review patient assessments and monitor rehabilitation, Vulcan MSK is designed to create structured datasets that can be used for clinical reporting, outcome analysis, research, and validation of rehabilitation protocols. This gives healthcare organizations a foundation for both day-to-day clinical care and longer-term clinical research.
